We have been placed on standby by Welwyn Hatffield Borough Council in case needed for Meals on Wheels deliveries from Wednesday. As more snow is expected in the East on Tuesday afternoon/evening.

Not sure if the snow will be that disruptive round here but just in case we have two vehicles on standby and two reserves available each day for Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th January.

Thanks for the update.

In terms of calls we have had two more:

John (HT12) carrying out home carer visits in South Oxhey area.

Bill (HT20) carrying out home carer visits in Cuffley area.

Also Peter (HT10) carried out a vehicle recovery whilst waiting for his carer outside a clients house :D

And have been asked to go on standby for West Herts Hospitals Trust, Renal Dialysis Unit but it seems they are coping at present.

Snow has now stopped and most main roads remain passable but further snow expected this afternoon.

And as if by magic an update from Graeme at the Met Office:

Hi all,

Further to my email earlier today on the prospects for the next 24 hours, Flash Warnings have been updated with the latest thoughts on snow for the rest of today.

I said I would update on the prospects for the next few days so here it is.

After another cold, freezing night tonight. Snow showers are likely to develop across the more northern and eastern part of the region (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Essex) through the day and some of these will be heavy. In some of these areas this could be as heavy snow as you have seen so far. 2-5cm, locally 10cm look to be the likely amounts and the snow may be a little sleety on the coastal fringes.

Further snow showers are expected to blow in on a brisk northeasterly wind over Friday and Saturday with further accumulations in places, again mostly in the north and east.

On Sunday, into Monday, there is the risk of some more heavy and persistent snow for a time. An advisory has been issued for this today but details are sketchy at the moment. I will provide further updates on this as we go through the week but it is something which needs monitoring.

Looking further ahead while there is little info we can give at this stage on further snow, we can say with some confidence that there is no sign of any milder weather spreading in for the next 10-15 days so the cold and ice will continue to pose problems throughout that time.

As usual, call if you need anything further.

Regards,

Graeme
