This afternoon we were officially stood down by the East of England Ambulance Service and by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for whom we were delivering meals on wheels.
We have yet to be officially stood down by the County Council Emergency Planning Team but we have not had a call from them since yesterday.
Just one alert remains for tonight when we will again be on standby in partnership with BHC 4x4 Response to assist SERV Blood Runners (http://www.servhertsbeds.org.uk/) in Herts and Beds should they need us.
Some minor side roads are still barely passable (as an Ambulance discovered this morning - good job I came along shortly after he got stuck :D ) but the majority of roads in the County are now clear or passable with care.
Met Office reports we are unlikely to get further snow apart from the odd light shower (which may be sleet or rain) and temperatures are just above freezing so the snow is now thawing. The only problem we are likely to face now is if all this meltwater freezes overnight.
A total of 45 callouts, self deployments and standbys since the 2nd January
Added to the 29 we had in December that's a total of 74 so far this Winter.

Well Hertfordshire County Council placed us back on standby today, even though had never officially stood us down
We remain on standby for SERV Bloodrunners tonight.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council asked us to do Meals on Wheels at short notice this morning, then stood us down again half an hour later?
Then they asked us to go back on standby for tomorrow.
And to cap it all the Ambulance Service informed us that they hadn't stood us down, they had just cancelled their internal major incident status but we hould remain on standby.
Confused?

I've been down to Chelmsford and back tonight. There was thick fog between Chelmsford and Stanstead and again from Newmarket to Ely and then I ran into light snow as I got back to Hunstanton. As the ground is so cold it was settling but it has stopped now, the roads appear clear but the pavements are still white.

Pretty foggy down this way too, just got back from the Local GLASS meeting and had a couple of slippery moments negotiating roundabouts near home. Side routes are still white after the light but persistant snow fall we have had most of the day.

Chucking it down with rain here at the moment but still got one final call out for Meals on Wheels today as side roads still have some residual snow and ice.

Someone needs to hire a proof reader...
Hertfordshire 4x4 Response, the county's fire service and countryside management service were involved.
I didnt know we were the county's fire service!
But on the serious side for a change, it's nice to be noticed.

Would it be worth getting together in daylight & getting some team/group pictures for all this media attention?
I'm sure I can sort a location is anyones up for it. If we're quick we may be able to get some snow in the background.

Photo shoot would be a good idea but not a lot of snow left to look convincing.
To date I only have one photo of Hertfordshire 4x4 Response "in action" :D

Can't see that pic for some reason Tony, but if we do decide to do a "shoot", let me know as I can arrange some top notch photography.

I resized it but I can't seem to upload it to the original post when editing?
So let's try again!

Hello Tony
I'm reading your posts with interest as I'm gathering response data to support severe weather planning
for the future in Norfolk.
Is it Ok to use some of the summary data for a general report I'm writing in Norfolk? It can be acknowledged as to source.
thanks Ali (new member)
