Yesterday evening GW4x4R took a call from SARAID requesting assistance getting their kit and people from their base to Heathrow.
We had 5 units who met in Cirencester to travel in convoy to their storage facility. Here we loaded a ton of equipment (literally) and 4 team members along with their personal kit.
At 00.25 we set off from their facility and travelled in convoy through horrific fog to Heathrow. We arrived at approx 02.30, unloaded their gear and took it into the terminal where they were meeting other team members.
We then split into 2 groups for the return journey and finally arrived home between 04.00 and 05.00 on Thursday morning. We covered in excess of 1000 miles between us but we were pleased to have ben able to get these highly trained and dedicated guys to the airport to enable them to travel to Haiti where they are involved in the Search and Rescue efforts following the tragic events there.
Many thanks to all the GR units that attended and for giving up such a lot of time and effort - I think all had to return for work this morning so a super effort all round on our lovely little jaunt across the uk....
We wish all the SARAID members a safe trip and commend them for their efforts.

Where are SARAID based then? And who are they? :?

Well done to all concerened, an excellent example of how working with others can have far reaching effects. I trust you don't mind if I copy the report elsewhere for others information.

Thanks all for the welcome.
In particular I'd like to give both my own personal and S.A.R.A.I.D's thanks to Ash and the Gloucester Worcester Team for helping us out.
Due to the adverse weather and a combination of factors that conspired against us we couldn't get suitable transport to move 3 members of the team plus, as Ash says in his report 1 tonne (1020kg) of rescue kit from our stores in Bath to catch a flight from Heathrow.
One phone call later to you guys and it was all sorted and the team were on their way down a foggy M4 to get to us at Heathrow.
As a Pajero owner myself it brought a HUGE grin to my face to see the convoy of 4x4 response guys at Terminal 4 when I pulled in to drop off some more of the team. Sorry I couldn't stay to chat but I had to head off to collect a couple more of the team but hopefully we'll get another chance to say hello.
The team flew out on time on Thursday and are now safe and well in Port au Prince after having a little trouble reaching the final destination.
They are currently awaiting a tasking from the UN but anticipate starting their search operations later today. To keep updated with what else the team do in Haiti you can follow their progress either on Twitter (SARAIDUK) or on the friends of SARAID Facebook page

Thanks again for your help and hopefully we'll get a chance to work together or meet up again under more relaxed circumstances in the future.

But does wearing orange jackets make them look bigger - or is it an optical illusion? http://www.4x4response.info/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif
Or do they only do orange jackets in one size? http://www.4x4response.info/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif
