I tooks likely we will be having a stand at the Emergency Services Show (http://www.ess2010.com/index.lasso) at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on 24th and 25th of November.

This is a good event, I went last year and Yorkshire and Lincolnshire had a stand (unfortunately out in the car park), although this year we will be indoors.

Registration for the exhibition is free, there is also a conference but at £217.50 + VAT for two days (if you book before October, £290+VAT after that) I can't see too many group members being tempted. If you are a member of your LRF (as most of us are these days) you can claim a 10% reduction on those prices.

However the exhibition alone is worth going for, especially if you like looking round all the latest emergency response gadgets. It is also a good networking event and it was very encouraging last year to see several 4x4 Response jackets in the crowds.

You can register for the exhibition HERE (http://www.eventdata.co.uk/Forms/Default.aspx?FormRef=EmeB0Visitor)

We will also be looking for a few volunteers for the stand so if you are interested please send me a PM.

Just to confirm we will be at the Emergency Services Show on November 24th and 25th on Stand 566 in Hall Three.

If anyone is intending to visit the show and is prepared to spend some time helping on the stand, please send me a PM as I need to order up our exhibitors passes, these can be collected at reception when you arrive at the show.

If you are prepared to help then I need to know by next weekend please.

For anyone attending the show and intending to spend time on the stand (to help out rather than just visit) I thought it might be useful to put some recommendations on dress code as I have had a couple of people ask "what do we wear"?

You will get all types at the show in suits, uniform and casual but we do want to present a professional image as this show will be pitching to the professional user bodies.

So if you have logo'ed up shirts or polo shirts for your group these are preferable, combined with plain dark trousers e.g. cargo pants as these give a smart "working uniform" look.

Please do not wear jeans (although you will most probably get away with plain black) and definitely no camouflage please, although again plain black combats would be fine.

If you do not have group clothing a plain black or blue polo shirt with dark trousers (as above) will achieve the right sort of smart/casual look.

Footwear is your choice as you are likely to be on your feet a long time so keep it appropriate.

No need to come suited and booted as this may give the impression we are trying a bit too hard :D

Remember the adage:

If you look professional and act professional, you will be treated as a professional!

We are on Stand 556 in Hall Three.

That has done the rounds since first uttered but is as true now as when first said

Had a great time at the Show and made lots of very good contacts, user groups, other voluntary aid organisations, some potential members and potential sponsors, supporters and training providers.

A big thanks to all those who turned up and helped out.

Here's a few pictures:

Firstly setting up on Tuesday Night, only put the basics out as "there would be plenty of time in the morning" As you can see the grandly named "Hall 3" at Stoneleigh is in fact a large cow shed. The heating wasn't on and big vehicle doors were all open. There was frost forming on the vehicle windscreens..... indoors!

Note that the Defender is still wearing Hertfordshire logos. The awning was to fill up the 36m2 we had but in hindsight was not really necessary

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t9/MadCowPhotos/Emergency%20Services%20Show%202010/ESS2010004.jpg

I did set up things to decide where things should go

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t9/MadCowPhotos/Emergency%20Services%20Show%202010/ESS2010007.jpg

I then locked everything away safely in the back (that turns out to be important)

Then something very strange was spotted moving amongst the stands

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t9/MadCowPhotos/Emergency%20Services%20Show%202010/ESS2010006.jpg

Turned out to be a prop for one of the Fire and Rescue Services "Animal Rescue Team"

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t9/MadCowPhotos/Emergency%20Services%20Show%202010/ESS2010005.jpg

I then got a cab back to my luxurious hotel (actually a Travelodge on the A45) and later Dave White, Yorks and Lincs Chairman turned up and we retreated to a nearby pub for a natter. On our return we had one job to do, preparing National Logo stickers for the vehicle. Eventually we finished at about 01.00 !!!

The next morning Trevor Males turned up and we headed off to Stoneleigh....

Where I realised I had left the keys to the Defender in my hotel room! Leaving Trev and Dave to man the fort, I borrowed Trev's Pathfinder and high tailed it back to get the keys.

Not only was most of the gear for the stand locked inside but I had also agreed to keep a flat screen TV and DVD player safe for a neighbouring stand by locking it in the back.

45 minutes later I was back and we got on with setting up, I took over an hour as we kept having to stop to talk to visitors. But with the arrival and help (or maybe hinderance) of Darren, Ash and Pete from Gloucs & Worcs we soon had it ready

And continued dealing with the steady flow of visitors

Other notable mentions must also go to Tim Childe (West Midlands) for turning up on Wednesday and for Stephen Cuthbert (BHC) and Robin Baldwin (Breckland) for helping out on Thursday.

So here's to next year.

so why did the vehicles around your landy have U.S. Style red/blue lightbars??

for exactly the same reason as when two soldiers meet on a battlefield they'll swap kit, and they'll both go back to their mates and say:-

"Look, I swapped this helmet/boots/rationpack/...
for an American/British/German/...
one, it's MUCH BETTER than the one's we have !"
:D

insert/delete as appropriate.

So here's to next year.

Not sure what made me think of this, but I don't remember seeing any mention of 'next year', which is now this year.
(23rd/24th November.)

Did I just miss the new thread?? Didn't find any mention with a search.

Will we be there this year??

In that case I'll put in bid to get a day off work again. Not sure my boss will fall for it a second time though ;)

(Just checked and the second day is an exam day for my students - not sure if this will make it easier or harder to get the day off.)
