Five Members participated;

WE62 WE21 WE09 WE21 WE69

One member stayed over on Friday night and one on Saturday.

Location: Okehampton Military Camp, Dartmoor.

Members were on site at 0645 with a briefing at 0730.

Scenario: Sixty four people had been out on a trek. Eight went missing and two female marshalls, sent to find them also were lost.

W4x4R had to ferry casualties to selected sites, unknown to S&R teams.

Then the searchers were also ferried around the camp to look for the casualties.

Deployed - casualties from 0845 to 0915, Searchers from 0930 until 1030.

Thereafter, during the day, various people were moved from site to site, including control staff to set up radio links. Retrieval of searchers and casualties took place between 15.00 and 16.30. Endex 17.00

About 150 people took part including teams from around the country and TAG Police teams. Also RAF Chivenor and Police Middlemoor helicopters. S&R dogs were also used. Weather was typical - wet and closed in. The helicopters were grounded at times.

WE 69 was partnered with a DRG member for communication purposes. occasionally , when appropriate, making some journeys to carry or retrieve folk.

W4x4R were thanked and the day was enjoyable and interesting.

This was an extremely well organised exercise and a great opportunity for 4x4 Response to show what we could do - and we didn't miss an opportunity to do just that.

I'd like to thank all of our team, Roland, Matt, Seb, and Dave for their enthusiasm and non stop contribution to the day. We all travelled 90 miles on average around the exercise site and barely stopped for longer than 20 minutes at anyone time.

A lot of the participants recognised our organisation's name from the recent incident at Ottery St Mary covered by BBC Spotlight - so well done to our TV celeb Devon Team Dave Harris for such an elequant performance in front of the cameras.

The biggest problem (or Godsend!) was running out of bottles of dog at 10.30 on Friday evening!!!

The stretcher type equipment you see was DSAR's - we were deployed to carry it around to where it was needed!

It let their guys concentrate on what they do best! Leaving us to do what we do best - driving 4x4's
