Wednesday we were forecast that heavy snow was unlikely to hit Hertfordshire and were told to expect rain.
In the event the snow extended 30-40 miles further East than predicted and did hit Hertfordshire as well as Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire badly. This resulted in a number of call outs from the Ambulance Sevice starting ot 04.22 hours in Bedfordshire.
We also received a call out for Cambridgeshire on Wednesday night to transport staff to Huntingdon but this would have stretched us just too far, in the event the Red Cross were able to supply a 4x4 from Suffolk.
Last night (Thursday) we were told to expect much heavier snow and as a result were asked to remain on standby for the Ambulance Service and were also contacted by Hertfordshire County Council to be on standby for them too.
The snow did come as predicted last night but once again the forecast was a bit off and it seems to have affected areas to our west (Bucks and Northants particularly) more badly than us, although disruption in Hertfordshire has been widespread.
However we have still had call outs this morning (Friday), first was from the County Council to transport two Home Care Workers from Welwyn Garden City to Welwyn to visit a client and then return them to their base.
2. We also transported a woman suffering abdominal pains from Cheshunt to Hospital in Enfield as no ambulances were available.
3. A second call to take a woman with a broken arm from Ware to Hospital in Harlow, was cancelled shortly after the driver had left home.
4. Another request was received from County Council to transport two care workers to 17 calls in the Watford area, big thanks to Dave (HT11) for taking that one on.
Conditions are now improving with rain forecast for this afternoon
Various Hertfordshire members have also been active this morning recovering stuck motorists, including myself, as it was quicker to tow two cars up a short ice bound hill, than it was to find an alternative route round them :D
