The Isle of Wight Music Festival is being held 12th -14th June and Isle of Wight Raynet have been tasked to provide communications & support services between 11th - 15th June OUTSIDE of the event.

This tasking is very large & very complex and requires a large number of operators.

So where do 4x4 teams come in I here you ask? I could do with a number of vehicles between the 11th - 15th to run on each day (from 0900 - 0100h in 2 shifts) The event has been chopped up into Zones, each with a Zone Coordinator, These areas include a Traffic Zone, that will cover all the major roads into and out of Newport, another will cover the Ferry Ports, another central Newport and the final one the main festival area.

Obviously moving about is not that easy (with 60,000 people at the event and the normal traffic, its a PITA) but we have such a large area to cover, 4x4's would be an ideal resource - if you have a road-legal quad, that would be even better!

This tasking has been requested by the IW Council along with the Police. Team Members would need to be able to carry out simple traffic management, ideally hold a 1st aid ticket & kit and a Amateur Radio License. Obviously if it poors with rain, then towing ability may be a good thing (at the Bestival last September it was £5 per car to tow them out!)

Now the dull stuff - you will NOT be operating, or have access into the main festival site (unless it all goes wrong!) As its a Council tasking, funds are very limited, so donations to groups may be very very small if not invisible. You would need to be able to commit to the event and stick to it - We need a minimum of 20 operators PER SHIFT and I don't have time to mess about because someone has decided to go to the beach! Ferry tickets will be discounted, not free.

The Not-so-dull bit - Camping would be free from Wed 10th - Monday 15th. There will be a full event breifing on the Wednesday night, this will include a free buffet and very cheap drinks (Prison Officers Club) Groups can gain all the press & publicity they want (it has to be checked first with IWR, for obvious reasons)

A central control building has been secured for the duration, this will also be the shift welfare area (free tea & coffee, I'm working on the food!) If you can help, you will be assigned a zone and recieve a rain-forest in maps, briefings, information etc

For further information, either PM or e-mail me.

John,

Although I don't have a AR License, I'm willing to provide a Taxi for others that do! However, the main IOW Festival website states the 'no caravans' are allowed - is this the case for us as well??

Also, are there any details of the discounted Ferry rates (would prefer Wightlink, Pompey - Fishbourne) yet, as the website quote is some £185 return (inc caravan) ?

Of course, all this is dependent upon me getting the time off from work in the first place! I'll check the Loadings once I return after Easter Break ...

Mick,

Camping is not at the festival site! I have secured another campsite for people to use - would you really want to camp in the mud, next to Mr Bongo and Lager-Chav??

As for the ferry, once again, its a discounted rate that both WL & RF are giving us. I will confirm the prices in a bit and publish them on here.

At the moment it looks as though I would not be able to appear until Thursday evening, but I'll keep on it ...

Any more news regarding Ferry Discounts yet, as the standard prices are prohibitively expensive???

Cheapest quotes for me at the moment (return, including caravan):

- Wighlink (Portsmouth - Fishbourne) about £95

- Red Funnel (Southampton - Cowes) about £110

Those are off-peak saver rates - either way, it isn't cheap!

Any more news of discounted rates yet??

I did try the sob story approach, explaining who we were and what we did, hoping to get to upper management to pass 'gratis' fares. they put me onto someone else who had nothing to do with it. but if travelling from soton, fares not to bad if you go dead early or late evening.
