Just a couple of pics from this event on Saturday where Wales group had a stand. They have unusual tastes in clothes in Welshpool!

As it was mainly a truck show, we all felt a bit dwarfed in the "convoy" parade when all the vehicles went round the town centre, and we had a drive round the arena after all the trucks as well.
There was also a nice little off road course in the grounds of Powis Castle, the plan being we would take the public out on an off road safari for donations towards the Air Ambulance fund. We got a few takers for that on Saturday, not sure if there were more today, but we took the opportunity for a bit of practice driving ourselves anyway! :D If I can get some pics of the course from the others, I'll post those as well.
What's going on with the battenberg'd Disco? It has PATROL on the bonnet.
Is it reflective blue? used for any other service?

I don't think he's one of our members, hadn't seen the car before, someone said he was from Muddy Millers 4x4 club but I don't know them myself - I'm sure I would have noticed the car if it had been around before!
He spent most of the morning leaning on his bonnet talking on his mobile, and don't think he came over to the stand at all but guess he was local to Welshpool and had just come down for the day. There was something written across the spare wheel as well - don't know if it was patrol or recovery (I'd be no good on Crimewatch!) and I think that had reflective chevrons on it.
Clearer picture here of it ... the battenberg was all over.

I thought I'd seen it before on http://www.ukemergency.co.uk/index.htm but after a bit of searching I discovered  it was a Disco 3 not a 2 and is used by a recovery company (and yes it's non reflective):

Reflective or not, I'd still slow down if it was following me!

I think the multicoloured Disco 2 had markings that denoted it was used as an outsize load escort vehicle or something similar? I hadn't seen it before but this isn't unusual considering the speed the group has grown at!
I have no idea whether it belongs to a member or not - it may have just parked near the other Discos.

after having spoken to a traffic officer at the 999 day we attended at brooklands, he stands chance of being charged with impersonating a police officer/vehicle. the officer said he didn't care what colour reflective markings were on our vehicles as long as it wasn't blue and yellow, as thats reserved for POLICE only!!

"Reflective markings" are the key here, especially if it is in a battenburg pattern, vehicle lighting regs were updated to clarify this last year.
Blue/Yellow - Police only
Red/Yellow - Fire only
Green/Yellow - Ambulance only
Yellow - Highways Agency and VOSA
And before you think that shouldn't the last one be yellow/black, no because the black on HA/VOSA vehicles is not reflective.
As a result it is most probably illegal to run any other colour (reflective or not) in a battenburg combination with reflective yellow. e.g. orange/yellow
This does mean that a battenburg in non reflective colours is almost certainly legal (and I have to say that Disco does not look reflective) but as Jason says could get you accused of impersonating an emergency vehicle.
Another to note is that rear chevron markings should not be yellow/orange as these are now also reserved for emergency vehicles only. Reflective Red/Flourescent Yellow being recommended for civilian vehicles.
And if you have any form of red reflective material on the sides of a vehicle, it must not extend beyond 1 metre from the rear.

Have found out since he works escorting extremely wide vehicles.
It was at Oswestry last week being used on the see saw for any member of the public who wanted to try out their balancing.
And we weren't too far from a police stand, so I'm sure if they had any issues they'd have been over to check it out.
Hate to admit it was a member of the public rather than any of the Response members who was the first to get the truck to balance!

not sure if he could get away with it being non reflective, but as you say, the police didn't give him any grief, and wide load escorting duties seems a legit reason to have it. perhaps the local police are aware of him and his duties??
