Hi all,

I've made a brief reference to them in the Glastonbury thread.

The 2012 Olympics may seem a long way off but they will get here sooner than we think.

I have recently been at meeting with both South West Ambulance Service and Dorset Police where the Olympics were discussed specifically the sailing at Weymouth. I anticipate many more meetings over the next 1000 days.

At the moment our role is undefined but both organisations do see a role for us, primarily logistical.

It is currently uncertain how many can be expected at Weymouth/Portland but there are a limited number of access routes to the probable viewing points. This could involve transport of water etc if the day(s) should prove particularly hot or conversely we may assist in the transport of medical personel.

AT the moment I don't really want to do anymore than bring the event to your attention and remind everyone that the Olympics will not just be in London.

Thanks Bob for bringing it to attention - do you know where we can find out which other venues will be hosting Olympic events? (No references please to Whippet Racing here in the North... ;) )

There are also many venues across the country which will be used for pre event training.....many of which will likely attract huge crowds of spectators, and lets not forget after the main olynpics there is the para's......so how things evolve in the next few years can only be guessed at at this point.....

I the main training venues will not be advertised publically due to security considerations, however there is also the "Cultural Olympiad" which is a whole series of events that run between games (so we have in theory been involved since Beijing). In reality these events will become more common in 2011/12/

Also many venues will be tested by the holding of World Championship events (or international standard competitions) in 2010 and 2011.

All potential impacts on normality

the main training venues will not be advertised publically due to security considerationsAbsolutely, it was intimated by Special Branch that there are roughly 10 times as many (potential) training venues as will actually be used

I will be attending the IOC Programme Launch up here soon. I will keep my ear to the ground ref opportunities for us to raise our profile on the back of this.

I'll perhaps know more once (if) I can get my feet under the table ;)
