I am a member of the fledgling bedfordshire group. For a little group that isnt really set up yet we seem to be quite busy... Sadly no mud or real 4x4 stuff but it's more a matter of building links at the moment. We may only be parking & transport at the moment but at least they can see that we are organised & reliable & dependable

Last saturday we were assisting with a training excersise in Luton which almost went live when a block of flats nearby caught fire. Strangely it was exactly the same as the training scenario!

Last night we were called to assist with the bomb scare in bedford. We got to meet the new mayor who seemed very impressed by the speed & numbers that we managed. In fact we were set up before the bomb squad arrived. Again, not much for us to do but the more organisations that know about us the better for the future.

If the bomb had gone off & we had needed some numbers we may have had to call in Hertfordshire who were all having a monthly pub night down the road! Tony, sorry we didnt make it but Jason & I were busy elsewhere!

Mark,

That's great to hear, with luck your local Mayor will feed back to his colleagues and the Emergency Services just how fast you can respond.

In fairness at least 90% of call-outs are not off-road/in mud but are to provide transport on roads in adverse weather. Probably the hardest bit is getting across to users that we have that BIG load carrying ability.

Pete did call me last night but on my land line not my mobile

So Anne knew all about the call out but I didn't :D

Well done but I am concerned about this "moonlighting" over the border, at least Jason has the excuse he actually lives in Bedfordshire

Strange you should say that, for somereason they chose me to take the nice WRVS ladies to Tesco to stock up on bacon & rolls to feed the teams, oh & the evacuees as well....

not so strange really, you can get an awful lot of burgers in the back of a 4x4.

Likewise tables and chairs and all the gear for setting up a rest centre

I detect a pattern here...

Didn't you have to transport some ladies back in the snow?

You'll be getting a reputation

On the excersise (how many different ways can I spell that?) on Saturday all the 'victims' were hair & beauty students at the local college.

Their participation & make up work counted as work expirience towards their coursework.

Lets just say there are obviously not may fellows on their course, and very few of them had fallen from the ugly tree.

Ah yes but this is the County formerly known as Bedfordshire...

You don't get a bacon sarnie unless you have been CRB checked :D
