We have just been placed on standby by the East of England Ambulance Trust for potential snow tomorrow.

It is predicted for Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire rather than Hertfordshire but they were not aware of the existence of BHC 4x4 Response.

Well they are now and the request has been passed on.

I guess elevated is much where we are after a 'heads-up' from Great Western Ambulance service, heavy(ish) snow is possible in Wiltshire tonight.

Yeah - we have made it a formal state cos quite a few of our users are pretty poor at proper standbys! So we erm do it for them as it were... saves it starting in the middle of the night and us not knowing who is ready...

We have a semi official 'heads-up' which I guess would be a case of going from DEFCON 5 to 4 (if we were SAC) basically no need to make sarnies or anything yet but we might get a call, so put the wheels back on and don't get involved in oil changes etc..

But basically we have three formal states

Stood down, = carry on as normal

Stand-by = fuel-up, dig out the flask from the back of the cupboard, make sure that you have your shovel on board etc.

And of course Call-out means that we are deploying vehicles

Suprised we're not busier as the snow round here has drifted quite badly.

Maybe the main roads are better.

Things are definately quiet so far.

I got a voicemail this morning from ambulance control asking if we could help recover a stuck ambulance?

Unfortunately it had been phoned through at 10.52 last night but my phone never rang and there is no missed call in the call log?

Spoke to them this morning and they didn't seem to know anything about it (so I hope they're not still stuck)

Wayne (HT05) has been out delivering meals on wheels this lunchtime.

And Mark (HT21) has been ferrying a Social Carer about after two others aparently crashed their cars trying to get up a narrow country lane to a client.

We have a heads up for a another possible Carer run in the St Albans area this evening but so far that's it.

And then the phone rang!

Social carer run is on and they have a second as they have just been let down by the Fire and Rescue Service

Main roads and towns are pretty clear but it seems back roads are still pretty bad.

Had a call on my mobile last night at 00.33 but I didn't hear it and the name was witheld, I must have been dead to the world! but nothing afterwards.

Roads were really not too bad around King's Lynn this morning, just the way everybody was driving. It took me 3 hours to get into work instead of the usual 40min

Had a call this afternoon from Social care, 2 carers had been sent to an elderly person in need in a fairly remote village, they were in a Fiesta :o and had been out of contact for a considerable time. We were put on standby but nothing came of it.

We have another social care call tomorrow at 07.00 "surprisingly" I had no takers, so yours truly is deploying

Also two vehicles out doing meals on wheels deliveries tomorrow lunchtime.

Been a busy day for us as well, we had the Biggleswade HGV incident this morning, we were supporting a rest centre in Haynes, Beds this evening, as most of the village had been without power for approx. 15 hours, and also on standby for a care worker in Beds.
