... and noticed someone mentioned that they were part of a community support thingy using their Landy (it was in a Land Rover group, you see) and I thought "ooh, that sounds interesting", so Googled and found out more. And that there are groups all over the place ... including one where I live part of the time.

And then I discovered that not only were there people in Hertfordshire, but they had a meeting planned THAT VERY NIGHT! And it said people wanting to find out more were welcome...

So I went. And liked what I heard. And joined up :-)

AlisonW ... Hippo2 ... Call sign eagerly awaited!
Highgate, London & Markyate, Herts.

(Additional info: I'm very much a night person not an early morning [before 11am] one, so I can see that being an occasional issue for events, but I'll try most things twice)

Thank you - though I'm not sure how 'frozen' it is up there at the moment I do expect to be up in the Highlands for a visit later in the year :-)

Nice top be here

Hello, I remember your presence, but forgot, and will continue to forget your name. I'm the odd one from Barnet.

I remember vehicles, then call-signs, then names. Comes of far too many years working with odd teams and odd shift patterns.

Thanks! And as the founder of the group, doubly so :-)

Welcome to the fold Alison

Thank you one and all. (I actually wrote a more detailed and longer reply when these nice things were first posted, which I thought was being saved until I was 'authorised', but seems not, so this is a shorter rewrite as I'm busy on the car today!)

Buying my Hippo at the end of July has certainly changed things around as I've been 'adding' things to it (inc. roof rails today) alongside buying offroad stuff like waffle boards, a tirfor-type hand winch, a hi-lift jack (which is too big so will have to sell this one and re-buy the 4ft model), and yesterday a second-hand worklightbar. Thank goodness the cheque came in for the insurance on the previous car!

So, I guess I'm just waiting for the rain, snow, storm, monsoon, apocalypse now ... :-)

Alison, look after Dougie (traitor got up and moved away ;-) ). Don't let him drink too much local fermented apple juice.

Wrong side of the country Jack - Doug emigrated to Herefordshire not Hertfordshire ;-)

Whups! Mind you I used to swap the names of Switzerland and Sweden a lot, which was especially troublesome as I travelled to both of them frequently on business!

I sold a TV on eBay once

The successful bidder asked when he could collect as he was "just down the road in Wales"

I had to point out just how far Cwmbran was from HERTfordshire as opposed to HEREfordshire :D

I let him off the sale and re-listed it.

The ironic thing was the newly successful bidder was from Lithuania.... and he came over to collect!

Mind you he had a LWB Sprinter full to the roof with eBay purchases, so clearly I wasn't his only pick up
