SRR at Long Melford Fireworks

Suffolk Rover Rescue members attended Long Melford Fireworks on Friday 4th Nov to provide 4x4 Support to the event.
Thankfully a quiet night for our guys, thanks to relatively fine weather with no problems reported.

SRR have assisted at this charity fundraising event now for several years, organised by Project Seven with sponsorship by East Anglian Daily Times, it is held at Melford Hall, Long Melford nr Sudbury in Suffolk.
Duties usually include traffic management within the Hall grounds and the emptying of the car parks after the event, with support for ES where req'd.

It was 4 years ago that a funfair ride came off it's tracks here, putting 5 people in hospital. SRR assets on this ocassion were quickly on scene and set up a cordon to facilitate easy access of ES to the incident.

Well done everyone!!

Well done.

Glos & Worcs were also providing event support at a school display in Cheltenham last night. Duties including taking money, security of fence lines, crowd control, and ensuring the teenagers didnt get out of hand (ie monitoring for alcohol on site).

A 'quiet' night, no major incidents, just a few trying their luck at entering without paying. Pretty good firework display too.

Rover Rescue (Norfolk) attended the Hunstanton firework display last night (Sat 5th Nov). We have supported this event for the few last years. Main duty is to support St John's Ambulance team and assist event organisers if needed.

I had just been talking to the SJA officer about getting some training for RR members when he was called to a pregnant lady with a "frozen" ankle. She couldn't walk so needed to be carried to the med unit. As a result, Robin and myself received our first training exercise in the use of an ambulance carry chair! After treatment the lady's ankle was sorted out and she walked away in comfort.

hi there, does this raise funds for your group?

Or do you do this one to raise awareness??

Just curious re: my Raising Funds thread

Pete

We do this on a purely voluntary basis, mainly because we have strong links with SJA in our area.
It does, however, help to raise awareness within the public sector and also gives us the opportunity to interact with other groups.

Last night, for instance, I had the chance to chat with the local fire crew and have a look at some of the equipment we might need to transport for them, ie portable fire pump and tools or lifting kit for getting cattle etc out of ditches.

An added bonus is that we get into the events for free !!

Following the event I had several opportunities to spread the word about our activities to the general public.

I had 4 cars parked within 100m of my house with punctures acquired while leaving the site, one didn't have a jack as theirs had collapsed on a previous occaion and the other had no idea how to get at his spare on his new Navarra Pickup (also his jack was unable to jack the vehicle up on soft ground).

At present we do not normally request any form of payment, mileage allowance etc for our services but this is likely to be changing with any new MOU's drawn up in the future.

I think you need to draw a clear distinction between payments and mileage related expenses claims...

By payment/paid i mean an agreed donation made in lieu of services to the charity :)
