Pete: thanks. I have it back. My SE4x4R logo also links to my group's forum
:)

A few ideas about avatars and signatures ...

What would be really nice is to have two avatars for each member, a personal one (as now), and a group one. If they were side by side, or on opposite sides of, the post header bar then page space would be conserved.
The group one would only be selectable from a list (or set by admin), and would also link to that group's official website.
Perhaps make the maximum height of the personal avatar more restrictive than the maximum width. (eg: Patrick Molloy's current avatar in this topic). say 90px high by 200px wide - allowing a bit of extra width won't impact topic readability.
Then there would be no need to allow any images in the signature, which would save a lot of vertical screen estate.
To the same end, maybe restrict signatures to a maximum number of lines.

That sounds like a good idea :)

Yes, please restrict sigs if poss. I know I can switch them off, but there's nothing worse than seeing the same logos/signatures etc time after time

TimChilde 20-02-2010 09:44 PM

I'd just got my sig how I wanted it, and now I realise I haven't got a copy of the code :-(

Oh well!!

Personally, I think the group logo is pointless in the sig as we all know that you're in 4x4R (as you're on the site) and which group from the custom fields.
I used mine for links to the groups website, twitter feed, facebook page etc.

What you state was previously the case, however precious few people were registered to the relevant groups so couldn't even see their own forum, so they were drastically under used.

The logic now is that is something is posted in a local forum that is a local matter others will not be interested anyway. However if it is of wider interest then it is most likely in the wrong forum anyway and can be moved to a more appropriate one.

Though I agree with this idea, I've just realised that all the other groups posts (that I'm not interested in) are popping up in my 'New Posts' search. That might be a pain for some people - especially, for example, as WM are using that area for their main forum so it should have lots of traffic!!

My page keeps flagging up most threads as having unread posts when I have just read them. Is this my computer or the host?

Tony Ferrari 21-02-2010 05:15 PM

I get the same, it seems to work in the forums themselves but the index page needs to be reset manually (double click on the symbol), I'm sure this can be done automatically but we are learning as we go.

Mine's doing the same, but not all the time. Last time I looked I had no unread threads, now this time I've got loads.

Also how do I stop being notified of replies to threads I've posted on. I haven't asked for this to happen.

The 'read posts/threads' options have been set so they may be slightly more friendly now, moved off cookie based methods.

To unsubscribe from a thread go to 'Control Panel' from the right hand menu, then 'List subscriptions' and unsubscribe from whichever threads you don't want to subscribe to.

To change your default subscription options click 'edit options' in the control panel then change 'default thread subscription mode'.

Cheers

Patrick
